The Myanmar earthquake death toll 2025 has surged to 3,735, with 5,108 people injured and 120 still missing, following the catastrophic 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck near Mandalay on March 28. The devastating tremor caused widespread destruction across multiple regions, including Sagaing, Magway, Shan State, Bago, and the Nay Pyi Taw Council Area.
Speaking on April 20, Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun, spokesperson for the State Planning Council, confirmed the latest figures and emphasized the government’s commitment to providing compensation for victims, including those injured and those who lost homes.
“The government shares the grief of the families,” he said. “We are making arrangements to provide compensation based on the type of home lost.”
International Response and Aid Arrivals
In a significant global humanitarian response, Myanmar has so far received:
- 145 aircraft from 25 countries
- 23 rescue vehicles from China
- 5 ships from India
- 1 ship from Bangladesh
- 2,094 international rescue workers
- 2,514.6 tons of relief supplies
- 1,197.12 tons of essential relief materials
The influx of support highlights international solidarity with Myanmar during one of the country’s most severe natural disasters in recent history.
Devastation Across Regions
The earthquake struck at 12:51 PM local time, approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Mandalay, with tremors felt across the central and northeastern regions. Numerous buildings, including homes, schools, and hospitals, collapsed, particularly in Kyaukse Township, where heavy equipment has been deployed to clear rubble and search for survivors.
Ongoing Rescue and Rehabilitation
Despite the challenges, ongoing rescue and recovery operations continue in affected areas, with local authorities and foreign teams working side by side to locate survivors, deliver aid, and begin initial rehabilitation planning. The government has vowed to rebuild damaged infrastructure and support affected communities through long-term recovery programs.
As the Myanmar earthquake death toll 2025 rises, global attention remains on the nation’s recovery and the immense effort required to restore lives and livelihoods shattered by this powerful seismic disaster.
