The OPEC+ oil production increase scheduled for October 2025 will add 137,000 barrels per day to global supply. The decision, announced on Sunday, slows the pace of recent hikes as member countries balance market stability with pressure to boost output.

Eight OPEC+ members—Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, UAE, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman—met virtually to review energy market conditions. The group said it would consider returning part or all of the 1.65 million barrels per day of voluntary cuts announced in April 2023, depending on global demand and market trends.

OPEC+ also stressed flexibility, noting that it could pause or reverse adjustments if conditions warrant. Member states emphasized their commitment to compensating for any overproduction since January 2024, ensuring discipline across the group.

At the previous meeting in August, OPEC+ approved a larger increase of 547,000 barrels per day for September. Since April 2025, the coalition has reversed its long-standing policy of deep cuts, collectively raising output quotas by around 2.5 million barrels per day.

This strategic shift aims to defend market share while responding to political pressure. U.S. President Donald Trump has pushed for higher output to keep gasoline prices low. Still, the increased supply has not brought prices down as much as anticipated.

On Friday, Brent Crude closed at $65.5 per barrel, down 2.2% on the day but still above April’s 2025 low of $58. Analysts suggest that while OPEC+ output is rising, global demand dynamics and geopolitical risks continue to support prices.

The OPEC+ oil production increase highlights the group’s cautious balancing act—expanding supply to meet political and market demands while maintaining flexibility to stabilize oil prices if volatility escalates.
