China and Tanzania have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation following a meeting between Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Dar es Salaam on Saturday.
President Hassan expressed her gratitude for China’s substantial support in advancing Tanzania’s development, highlighting China’s role in helping African nations grow under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation framework. She underscored that China has been a steadfast and reliable partner to Tanzania, noting the shared honor and challenges between both countries. Additionally, Hassan emphasized the strong ties between Tanzania’s ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party and the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Hassan reiterated Tanzania’s firm adherence to the one-China principle and expressed the nation’s willingness to align its development plans with China. She proposed deepening cooperation, particularly by revitalizing the Tanzania-Zambia Railway, promoting regional prosperity, and boosting inter-party and people-to-people exchanges. Tanzania also affirmed its support for China’s four global initiatives and its commitment to multilateral cooperation aimed at establishing a fairer international governance system.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, called the relationship between China and Tanzania one of shared destiny. He highlighted the enduring friendship between the two nations, which has withstood changing international circumstances, and emphasized the importance of continuing to nurture and modernize this bond.
Wang reiterated China’s commitment to Tanzania, expressing a desire to implement the agreements made by both heads of state. The goal is to enhance governance exchange, deepen practical cooperation, and foster continuous development within the China-Tanzania comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
Wang further emphasized that mutual trust and support are the cornerstones of China-Tanzania relations, which are characterized by mutual assistance and win-win outcomes. He praised Tanzania’s unwavering adherence to the one-China principle and assured that China fully supports Tanzania’s sovereignty, independence, and pursuit of a development path suited to its national conditions.
Looking ahead, Wang stated that both nations should prioritize high-quality development in their cooperation. He emphasized the revitalized Tanzania-Zambia Railway as a vital regional development engine, a symbol of friendship, and a conduit to prosperity, benefiting Tanzania and other African nations.
Finally, Wang reaffirmed China’s support for Tanzania to play an influential role in regional and global affairs, expressing China’s readiness to work with Tanzania and other developing countries to promote peace, stability, and progress worldwide.
