Indian Bride Arrested After Husband Found Murdered on Honeymoon in Meghalaya

A tragic honeymoon has turned into a high-profile murder case in India, as police confirm the arrest of Sonam Raghuvanshi, the 25-year-old bride who vanished after her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, was found brutally murdered in the northeastern state of Meghalaya.

Sonam surrendered to police in Uttar Pradesh after being missing for over a week. Authorities allege that she plotted her husband’s murder and hired contract killers to carry it out. Four men have been arrested in connection with the case, including individuals from her hometown of Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

The couple, who had an arranged marriage on May 11, traveled to Meghalaya on May 20 for their honeymoon, drawn by the region’s scenic beauty. Just days into the trip, they both went missing. After a tense week-long search involving police and rescue teams, Raja’s body was discovered in a remote gorge with his throat slit and valuables missing. Sonam, however, had seemingly disappeared without a trace.

Their families initially feared that Sonam had also been kidnapped or killed. The incident sparked a nationwide campaign demanding a federal investigation, with relatives even writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking justice.

However, the case took a dramatic turn when Sonam appeared at a roadside eatery in Ghazipur and called her brother, who contacted local authorities. She was arrested soon after. Police now describe her as the prime suspect.

While the motive behind the murder remains unclear, Meghalaya police suggested a possible romantic link between Sonam and one of the arrested men. They emphasized that these details are still under investigation.

Sonam’s father, Devi Singh, has maintained her innocence, claiming she escaped her captors and accusing police of fabricating the story. Raja’s family, initially in disbelief over her involvement, later acknowledged that one of the accused had ties to her workplace and called for justice if she is found guilty.

Following the breakthrough, Meghalaya’s Chief Minister praised the state’s police force for swiftly cracking the case in just seven days, despite facing heavy criticism during the investigation.

As the inquiry continues, the case has gripped national attention, shining a spotlight on trust, betrayal, and a honeymoon that ended in tragedy.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vDmUuENzCc
